Strengthen and protect weak or damaged teeth

Crowns offer a highly aesthetic way to cover unsightly teeth and protect them from further damage. They are an ideal restoration for broken, chipped, or discoloured teeth, or those that have been weakened by extensive decay or large fillings. Crowns fit completely over an entire tooth, and can be matched in shape and colour to your healthy natural teeth for a seamless blend into your smile.

Why choose a dental crown?

Crowns are commonly used to repair damage that has affected the structure and function of a tooth. They replace the whole outer shape of the tooth, making them a very effective rebuild and overall restoration. For teeth that have had multiple fillings, extensive decay, and general damage, a crown is the way forward.

We can use crowns to support a dental bridge or be fixed on top of a dental implant for a highly aesthetic finish. In many cases, we also recommend fitting a crown to improve the appearance and function of a tooth following root canal treatment.

What is involved in the treatment?

We first ensure that the internal structure of the tooth is intact and that there are no signs of infection present. We prepare your tooth by removing a layer of tooth structure, making sure we leave a strong core.

We take impressions of your teeth and record their colour so your crown can be made to fit perfectly. Between appointments, we protect the prepared tooth with a temporary crown.

When your new crown is ready, the temporary crown is removed and the new permanent one is fixed in place with a strong dental cement.
