Regular care for your healthy teeth and gums

The most common reason to visit the dentist is for your routine examination, giving you the chance to keep your oral health in the best condition. These appointments are vital for your ongoing dental care, as we fully assess your mouth, teeth and gums for any potential issues every time. Not every dental problem is noticeable, so it takes a skilled dentist to spot any early signs of decay or gum disease.

Why do I need routine dental check-ups?

We are dedicated to providing comprehensive preventative dental care at Leyburn Dental, and this begins with routine check-ups. It is important for us to take a look at your teeth and gums at least twice a year, spotting and treating any issues before they can get worse to avoid more costly treatment down the line.

During your check up, we can see if your brushing routine at home needs some improvement, and give plenty of guidance on how to clean properly and protect your smile from future issues. We also offer screening for oral cancer.

What happens during my check-up?

At the start of your check-up, we warmly welcome you and make sure you feel relaxed in the chair. We ask how you have been since your last check up, and if you have any concerns you wish to discuss with us.

The main part of your check-up involves a full examination and assessment of your mouth, teeth and gums. We look for signs of decay, infection, gum disease and bite issues. During your appointment, we also check your lips, tongue, face, neck, and inside your cheeks and mouth for signs of oral cancer.

If we find anything that needs further attention, we discuss the best course of action and create your treatment plan, detailing expected costs. To finish, we give you some advice on the best cleaning techniques and share tips to help you keep your teeth in excellent condition at home.
